The secret to conquering PEAK isn't just mastering your stamina bar; it's understanding that each of the game's five biomes is a distinct puzzle with its own set of rules. Success means adapting your strategy on the fly, conserving specific gear for later challenges, and learning the unique environmental hazards that define each region. From the poison-laced jungles of the Tropics to the final, gear-guzzling ascent of The Kil, you can't brute-force your way to the top. You have to climb smarter.

This guide breaks down the essential survival strategy for every region, detailing the threats you'll face and the techniques required to overcome them. Master these, and you'll reach the summit.

The Shore: Your Training Ground

Think of the Shore as the game's tutorial. Your primary objectives here are simple: learn the basic movement, get comfortable with your stamina management, and hoard as much gear as you can for the tougher climbs ahead. Don't waste your precious climbing equipment here; it's almost entirely unnecessary.

Loot Everything

As you make your way from the beach to the base of the cliffs, keep your eyes peeled for luggage. These containers are your main source of early-game supplies. Prioritize bandages for fall damage, packaged food for stamina, and any climbing tools you find. Use your backpack for extra storage, keeping food and healing items packed away while your essential climbing gear sits on your quick bar. A crucial early-game tip is to cook any food you find at a campfire. Cooked food restores 66% more hunger and provides a significant stamina boost. Crack open coconuts and cook them, too—it's free energy.

Master the Bounce-Pull

The Shore is designed to be climbed without fancy equipment, teaching you the value of cooperation. The single most important technique to learn here is the 'bounce-pull'. One player crouches, the other climbs on top of them, and the crouching player jumps. This gives the top player a height boost to reach a ledge they couldn't otherwise. Once they're up, they can pull the other player up by holding the right mouse button.

If you're feeling generous, you can use a single rope to help your teammates up a tricky section, but save items like the Chain Gun or Pitons. You will desperately need them later. The Shore is about teamwork and resource collection, not burning through your best gear.

The Tropics: A Poisonous Paradise

The Tropics introduces the first major environmental threat: poison. Nearly everything in this lush, green hell is designed to inflict a debilitating poison debuff that drains your health over time. Patience and careful navigation are paramount.

First, never climb in the rain. Your grip will be severely hampered, and you'll waste precious stamina. Wait for the storm to pass. As you climb, you'll encounter several hazardous plants:

  • Exploding Bushes: These orange plants will detonate on contact, sending you flying off the cliff. They don't apply a debuff, but the fall will likely kill you.
  • Gassy Bushes: These release a cloud of poison gas upon detonation. The effect can last for several minutes.
  • Poisonous Leaves: Simply touching these will inflict the poison status.

To deal with the bushes safely, throw a useless item at them from a distance to trigger the explosion. You can also carefully traverse vines and branches to bypass dangerous sections entirely. Remember, if a path looks too difficult, there's almost always an alternate route to the left or right.

Curing and Preventing Poison

Sooner or later, you'll get poisoned. You might also be bitten by a tick, which latches on and deals continuous poison damage. To remove a tick while playing solo, turn quickly while pressing 'E' or look down at your body while clinging to a wall. In co-op, a friend can simply pull it off for you.

To cure poison, you'll need one of three items: an Antidote, a Remedy Shroom, or a Curall. Keep these on your quick bar. Because poison is the region's defining challenge, it's wise to use your ropes and other basic traversal tools here to bypass the most hazardous areas, but continue to save your best gear like the Chain Gun.

The Alpines: A Race Against the Cold

As you ascend from the humid jungle, the air thins and the temperature plummets. The Alpines' primary antagonist is the cold, which inflicts a 'Frost' debuff that rapidly drains your stamina. Managing your body heat is the only way to survive.

Surviving the Freezing Winds

The main source of the Frost debuff is the periodic 'freezing winds' that sweep across the mountainside. When you hear the wind howl, you have a short window to find shelter. Huddling together with teammates behind a large rock or inside a small cave is the most common way to stay warm. Standing on ice blocks will also give you the freeze debuff, so avoid them.

Several items can counteract the cold directly. Using a Heating Pack will make you immune to the freezing winds for a short duration. Similarly, equipping a Lantern, Fairy Lantern, or deploying a Portable Stove will create a small aura of warmth, protecting you and any nearby teammates. Plan your climbs in short bursts from one safe spot to the next.

Advanced Climbing Techniques

The Alpines feature long, vertical faces where stamina management is critical. This is where you should start using more advanced climbing maneuvers. If your stamina is about to run out, press Shift to perform a forward lunge, gaining a final burst of distance. You can follow this up by spamming the spacebar and mouse button to make a few extra desperate grabs even with zero stamina.

If you do fall, don't panic. You can often negate all fall damage by holding 'W' towards the wall and holding the left mouse button. Your character will slide down the rock face, and you can often catch a hold at the last second. Should you suffer a massive fall, look for Napberries at the base of the mountain. Eating one will fully heal you, but it will also put you to sleep for a short time.

The Caldera: Dancing with Lava

Don't let the hellish landscape fool you. The Caldera is a surprisingly straightforward and fun region that's more of a rhythm-based platforming challenge than a grueling survival test. The key here is timing.

Riding the Fiery Waves

The core mechanic of the Caldera is the massive pool of lava that rises and falls, heating the rocks in its path. Stepping on a glowing, superheated rock will give you a 'Burn' debuff, but the damage is minor and heals quickly. The trick is to watch the lava's cycle. As it recedes, it cools the rocks, turning them back to their normal color and making them safe to climb on. Scout a path, wait for the lava to go down, and then move quickly.

Don't be overly terrified of the lava itself. You can actually walk or jump on its surface for a moment. You'll take some damage, but it won't instantly kill you, giving you a surprising amount of leeway for risky maneuvers. You'll also find chains hanging throughout the region; you can leap to these from any distance to traverse large gaps quickly. For the most part, you won't need any special equipment to navigate the Caldera, so continue to save it.

The Kil: The Final Ascent

This is it. The Kil is the game's final exam, a relentless vertical climb that will test your resource management, climbing skill, and nerve. There is no food to be found here, and very few pieces of luggage. It's a race against your hunger meter and the sheer, unforgiving wall face.

The Ultimate Gear Check

This is where all the equipment you've been hoarding finally comes into play. The Chain Gun is not optional; it is the most critical piece of gear for The Kil, as there will almost certainly be a section that is impossible to pass without it. Do not waste it. Use it only when you've identified a long, blank section of wall that offers no other way up.

Stamina-boosting items are your best friend here. Energy drinks and lollipops should be on your quick bar, ready to be consumed when you're about to run out of steam on a long stretch. The bounce-pull technique from the Shore also makes a crucial comeback for overcoming small, difficult ledges with a teammate.

Finding Your Footing

The Kil's climbing is intense and requires precision. The wall is dotted with tiny pockets and ledges that are just big enough to stand on. You must use these to recover your stamina. To secure yourself on one of these footholds, press 'S' to walk into the wall and crouch to lower your center of gravity. This will prevent you from accidentally slipping off.

While you need to move efficiently to beat the rising hunger, don't rush. A panicked move will lead to a fatal fall. Climb deliberately, rest at every opportunity, and use your gear wisely. Once you reach the top, you've done it. Find the flare gun, fire it into the sky, and wait for your hard-earned extraction.

The Peak is Yours

Each region in PEAK is a lesson. The Shore teaches cooperation. The Tropics teaches patience. The Alpines teach preparation. The Caldera teaches timing. And The Kil tests everything you've learned. By understanding the unique challenge of each biome and tailoring your strategy accordingly, you transform an impossible climb into a series of solvable puzzles. Now go get your summit.
