PEAK is not a game about raw climbing skill; it's a brutal test of resource management and teamwork. Your success hinges on one core principle: conserving your green stamina bar at all costs. Every action, from cooking food to boosting a teammate, is an investment in that bar. Forget hoarding epic gear or trying to be a hero on your first few runs. Your only goal is to make efficient, collaborative progress up the mountain. Master the fundamentals of stamina, cooperation, and environmental hazards, and you'll reach the summit. Rush, and the mountain will break you.

Master Your Stamina Bar

Think of your stamina bar as your health, your mana, and your currency, all rolled into one. When it's empty, you fall. When you fall from high enough, you're out. Every single decision should be weighed against its impact on your stamina and the stamina of your team. This is the central mechanic of the game, and learning its nuances is the first step to a successful climb.

Cook Everything for a 66% Boost

Raw food is for emergencies only. Cooked food is the engine of your climb. Cooking any edible item, from trail mix to coconuts, increases its hunger restoration by a massive 66% and often adds a valuable chunk of bonus stamina. Never miss an opportunity to cook. The moment you spawn, look for the flaming plane wing—it functions as a permanent stove. At every campfire checkpoint, your first action after eating your marshmallow should be to cook every single piece of food in the team's inventory. Breaking open coconuts and cooking the halves is one of the best sources of free, high-quality stamina in the early game.

Know Your Food (and What Not to Eat)

Not all forage is friendly. While you should grab most of what you see, learning to distinguish helpful resources from poisonous traps is critical, especially in the Tropics. Some mushrooms and plants will inflict a poison debuff that drains your stamina over time, a potential death sentence on a tricky climb. As a rule, learn the visual cues: for Cluster Shrooms, you want smooth stems, not hairy ones. For Button Shrooms, look for the 'X' on the cap. When in doubt, let someone else test it or discard it. A tiny bit of hunger is better than a long-lasting poison effect.

Gear Up Smart, Not Fast

Your inventory is limited, and every piece of equipment has a specific, vital purpose. A common rookie mistake is to burn through powerful tools like ropes and climbing aids in the first biome, only to find themselves helpless on the final ascent. Patience and prioritization are key.

Your First Priorities: Backpacks and Bandages

When you start, ignore the clutter. The two most important things to find in the scattered luggage are a backpack and bandages. The backpack expands your inventory, allowing you to carry more food and crucial utility items for later. Keep your climbing gear on the quick bar and stockpile all food and medical supplies in the pack. Bandages are essential for healing fall damage, but more importantly, they can be used on a downed teammate to revive them before they die completely. A medkit does the same, but faster. Food will not revive an unconscious player; only healing items will.

Save Your Best Tools for The Kil

The final region, The Kil, is a vertical, unforgiving wall that is a pure equipment check. It has few resources and is designed to drain your stamina and supplies. This is where you need items like the Chain Gun, which creates a climbable chain that uses very little stamina. Using a Chain Gun in the early Shore or Tropics is a complete waste. Your goal in the first three biomes is to gather as much powerful equipment as possible and save it. Rely on teamwork and efficient climbing to clear the early zones, and you'll have the arsenal you need for the final push.

Teamwork Makes the Peak Possible

PEAK is a cooperative game at its heart. Trying to solo your way up while ignoring your team is a recipe for failure. The scoutmaster will literally spawn to throw you off the mountain if you climb more than 200m ahead of your allies. Use communication and the game's built-in co-op mechanics to move as a single, efficient unit.

The Essential 'Bounce Pull' Maneuver

This is the single most important co-op technique to learn. For a wall that's just out of reach, have one player crouch. The second player jumps onto their head. The crouching player then jumps, launching the top player upwards with a significant boost. The top player can then grab the ledge and, once secure, look down and use the right mouse button to pull their teammate up. This simple maneuver costs zero equipment and saves a huge amount of stamina compared to two individual climbs. It should be your default method for overcoming any medium-height obstacle.

Reviving, Pointing, and Huddling

Cooperation goes beyond climbing. Use the middle mouse button (Mouse 3) to point out items, dangers, or paths to your teammates. If a friend takes a bad fall and is downed, rush to them with a bandage or medkit to get them back in the fight. In the frigid Alpine region, you can combat the 'Frost' debuff by simply standing close together. The more players in the huddle, the faster the cold effect dissipates. This act of 'cuddling for warmth' is a lifesaver during the region's freezing winds.

How to Survive Each Biome

Each of PEAK's regions presents a unique set of challenges. Learning to identify and neutralize them is the key to consistent progress.

The Shore: Your Training Ground

The first area is a tutorial. There are no major environmental hazards. Focus on looting luggage, practicing the bounce pull, and gathering a stockpile of cooked coconuts and trail mix. Find the natural bridges and rock formations that create an easy path. You should not need to use any consumable climbing gear here.

The Tropics: Poison, Rain, and Explosions

The Tropics are a minefield. The primary rule: do not climb while it's raining. The wet surfaces will destroy your stamina. Wait it out. Watch for two types of hazardous plants: the orange Exploding Bush, which sends you flying, and the Gassy Bush, which releases a cloud of poison. You can trigger these safely by throwing a useless item (like a rock) at them from a distance. Also, be wary of poisonous leaves and ticks that can latch onto you, requiring a teammate to pull them off.

The Alpines: Fighting the Frost

The main threat here is the periodic freezing wind, which rapidly applies the 'Frost' debuff, halting stamina regeneration. When you hear the wind howl, immediately seek shelter under a rock overhang or inside a small cave. Huddling with teammates also works. Standing on ice blocks will also give you the 'Freeze' debuff, so watch your step. Geysers can cure frost if you stand near them, but don't get caught in the eruption.

What Happens When You Fall?

Falling is inevitable, but it doesn't always have to be a death sentence. A few clutch moves can save you from a long drop or help you stick a landing you have no business making.

Two Last-Ditch Climbing Saves

You have two emergency moves for when your green bar is about to empty. First, just before it runs out, hit Shift to perform a forward lunge. This gives you a final burst of upward momentum and, crucially, does not consume any of your bonus yellow stamina. Second, if you're out of stamina but scraping against the wall, you can sometimes get a few extra inches of height by spamming the Space bar and Left Mouse Button while wiggling left and right. It's desperate, but it can be the difference between reaching a ledge and falling to your doom.

Sliding to Safety

If you're out of options and begin to fall, you can often negate all fall damage. Immediately turn to face the wall, hold W to press into it, and hold the Left Mouse Button. Even with zero stamina, you will often catch the wall and slide down it gracefully instead of plummeting. It's terrifying, but it works far more often than you'd think.

The Final Ascent

The path to the peak is a war of attrition. Your journey is about arriving at the final, brutal climb of The Kil with enough resources and teamwork to see it through. By managing your stamina, using co-op moves to save your gear, and respecting the unique dangers of each biome, you turn a game of chance into a game of strategy. Climb smart, climb together, and you'll plant your flare at the summit.
