Stop swinging that axe. The single most important step to leveling up your game in Palworld is to stop gathering basic resources manually. You can build a completely self-sufficient outpost that generates a constant, passive flow of wood, stone, and even Pal Spheres while you’re out exploring. The solution is a simple but powerful trifecta of structures: the Logging Site for wood, the Stone Pit for stone, and the Ranch for a surprising haul of useful items.
Setting this up requires unlocking a few key technologies around level 7 and catching the right Pals for the job. Once operational, your base will transform from a tedious chore into a resource-generating machine, freeing you up to hunt bosses, complete your Paldeck, and actually play the game.
Why Should I Automate My Base?
In the early hours of Palworld, your inventory is a constant battle. You need hundreds of wood for structures, stone for just about everything, and Paldium Fragments for Pal Spheres. Manually chopping every tree and cracking every rock is a slow, stamina-draining grind that chains you to the immediate vicinity of your Palbox. Every moment spent on this repetitive labor is a moment you're not gaining precious EXP by catching Pals or discovering new areas.
Automation breaks this cycle. By building dedicated production facilities and assigning Pals with the right Work Suitability, you create a workforce that never sleeps. They will chop, mine, and transport resources around the clock. This not only provides a massive surplus of materials for crafting and building but also ensures your Feed Box stays stocked and your base operations run smoothly without your constant intervention. It’s the difference between playing a survival game and managing an empire.
The Three Pillars of Early-Game Automation
Your journey to a hands-off resource empire begins with three fundamental structures, all unlocked in the Technology tree around level 7. These facilities don't deplete and will provide a limitless supply of their respective resources as long as you have a Pal assigned to work them.
Step 1: Secure Your Wood Supply with the Logging Site
Wood is the backbone of all early construction. The Logging Site is your first major step toward true automation. Once built, any Pal with the 'Lumbering' skill will begin chopping at it, generating a steady stream of wood that gets deposited right on site. No more chasing down scattered trees.
To get started, you'll need to reach level 7 and spend your Technology Points to unlock the Logging Site recipe. It requires 50 Wood, 20 Stone, and 10 Paldium Fragments to construct. For maximum efficiency, place a storage chest directly next to the Logging Site. This drastically cuts down the travel time for your Transporting Pals, who will ferry the wood from the site into the chest.
For staffing, any Pal with Lumbering will do, but some are better than others. While a Lifmunk is a decent starting option, your goal should be to find a Pal with Level 2 Lumbering, like an Eikthyrdeer. Their higher skill level means they produce wood at a much faster rate.

Step 2: Quarry Endless Stone with the Stone Pit
Just like the Logging Site, the Stone Pit provides an infinite source of stone, a material you'll need in massive quantities for everything from basic structures to advanced tools and the Crusher (which turns stone into Paldium Fragments). It's also unlocked at level 7 and costs 50 Stone, 20 Wood, and 10 Paldium Fragments.
Place it right next to your Logging Site to keep your primary resource generation centralized. Pals with the 'Mining' skill are required here. Your starting area is filled with Cattivas, which have Level 1 Mining and can get the job done. However, the real prize for your Stone Pit is a Tombat. These Pals can be found at night, have Level 2 Mining, and will accelerate your stone production significantly. A single Tombat can easily mine hundreds of stone while you're away on a short expedition.
Step 3: Generate Free Pal Spheres with the Ranch
This is the secret weapon of early-game automation. The Ranch, unlocked at level 5, doesn't produce a raw material like wood or stone. Instead, certain Pals assigned to it will 'graze' and periodically dig up specific items. While Lamballs produce Wool and Chikipis produce Eggs, one Pal in particular turns the Ranch into a sphere factory: the Vixy.
When you assign a Vixy to the Ranch, it will regularly dig up basic Pal Spheres and Arrows. This is a game-changer. Pal Spheres are expensive to craft in the early game, demanding a constant supply of precious Paldium Fragments. A Vixy completely removes this bottleneck, giving you a free, steady supply of spheres to catch more Pals, which in turn nets you more EXP. Simply build the Ranch (50 Wood, 20 Stone, 30 Fiber) and toss a Vixy in. It will handle the rest.

Your First Automated Workforce: Key Pals and Where to Find Them
Having the right structures is only half the battle; you need the right employees. Focus on catching these essential Pals to ensure your new automated systems run at peak efficiency.
- Vixy: This small, fox-like Pal is your top priority for the Ranch. Its Farming suitability is what allows it to dig up Pal Spheres. Vixies are commonly found in the Windswept Hills and other early-game forest areas.
- Tombat: The ideal miner for your Stone Pit. With Level 2 Mining, it vastly outperforms early-game options. As a nocturnal Pal, it is most commonly found in the same starting areas but only appears after sunset.
- Eikthyrdeer: A fantastic choice for the Logging Site thanks to its Level 2 Lumbering. These large deer Pals are often found in pairs or small groups in the forested areas around the initial spawn. They can be aggressive, so be prepared for a fight.
- Cattiva: While only having Level 1 Mining, Cattivas are everywhere and serve as excellent multi-purpose workers. They can mine, transport goods to chests, and help with building (Handiwork), making them a valuable part of any starting base.
- Lifmunk: Another versatile early Pal with Level 1 Lumbering, making it a solid initial worker for your Logging Site before you manage to catch an Eikthyrdeer.
Fine-Tuning Your Factory: Layout and Management
As your base grows, chaos can ensue. Pals might start jobs you don't want them to do—your Level 2 miner might decide to transport a single berry across the base, or your precious Vixy might wander over to the Stone Pit. This is where smart layout and management tools come in.
First, centralize your production. Place the Logging Site and Stone Pit side-by-side, and build a dedicated storage chest for Wood and Stone right next to them. This minimizes the pathfinding and travel time for your transport Pals.
Second, and most critically, build a Monitoring Stand as soon as you unlock it at Technology Level 15 (though it used to be earlier, prioritize it!). This structure is the manager's office for your base. It allows you to assign specific Pals to specific tasks, preventing them from slacking off or picking up jobs they're ill-suited for. You can command your Tombat to focus only on mining, ensuring it never leaves the Stone Pit. This is how you force your Vixy to stay in the Ranch and keep those Pal Spheres coming.

The Freedom of Automation
With these systems in place, your base is no longer a resource sink but a resource engine. You can log in, grab stacks of hundreds of wood and stone, pocket a dozen free Pal Spheres, and head out on an adventure without ever having to craft an axe. This is the foundation upon which you'll build everything else in Palworld. Automate early, and the entire archipelago is yours to conquer.
