The most iconic early-game weapon in Palworld isn't a weapon at all—it's a Pal. To turn the fiery Foxparks into a handheld flamethrower, you need to craft its unique Pal Gear, the Foxparks Harness. This process begins with a quest from the chief of the Small Settlement, who points you toward capturing the creature and creating the gear that lets you wield its flames directly.
This upgrade transforms Foxparks from a simple base worker into a formidable combat tool, capable of melting through early-game enemies and bosses. It's one of the first and most impactful power spikes you can achieve, making it a critical objective for any new tamer.
Where do I start the quest?
Your journey to becoming a walking inferno begins at the Small Settlement. This is one of the first friendly outposts you're guided to after starting the game, located a short distance northwest of the initial spawn point. You'll find it by following the main path inland from the coast.
Once you arrive, locate the village chief. He's an NPC who will offer you guidance and lore about the Palpagos Islands. After some initial dialogue about the World Tree and the Rayne Syndicate, he'll bring up the topic of Pal Gear. He specifically mentions a local creature and a powerful tool you can make for it.
He'll tell you, 'Fox Sparks likes to build their dens close to the tower. If you manage to secure one, do try your hand at crafting a fox spark harness... It allows you to carry fire sparks around, much like a living flamethrower.' This conversation officially adds the objective to your list and points you in the right direction.
How do I find and capture a Foxparks?
As the chief suggests, Foxparks are commonly found in the vicinity of the Rayne Syndicate Tower—the first major boss tower you'll encounter. The area around the tower's base and the surrounding forests are prime habitats for these fire-type Pals. They often travel in small packs of two or three and are most active during the day.

They are relatively low-level in this starting zone, typically appearing between levels 2 and 7. This makes them manageable for a new player. To capture one, follow these basic steps:
- Weaken the Target: Do not defeat it. Use a basic weapon like a wooden club or an Old Bow to lower its health until it's in the red. Be careful not to use overwhelming force, as accidentally knocking it out will prevent capture.
- Throw a Pal Sphere: Once its health is low, aim and throw a standard Pal Sphere. At low health, the capture chance should be reasonably high.
- Secure the Area: If other Foxparks in the pack become aggressive, be prepared to either capture them as well or defeat them so they don't interrupt your capture attempt.
Capturing at least one Foxparks is necessary for the harness, but catching more is a good idea. Defeating or capturing them is the primary way to gather Flame Organs, a crucial material you'll need for crafting.
What do I need to craft the harness?
With a Foxparks in your Palbox, the next step is building the infrastructure and gathering the materials to craft its harness. This is a multi-step process involving technology unlocks and resource collection.
First, build the Pal Gear Workbench
The Foxparks Harness can't be made at a standard Primitive Workbench. You need a specialized station: the Pal Gear Workbench. This is unlocked from the Technology tree at Level 6.
Once you've spent the Technology Points to unlock the recipe, you'll need the following materials to build the workbench itself:
- Paldium Fragments x10
- Wood x30
- Cloth x2
Wood is easily gathered from trees, and Paldium Fragments are mined from the shimmering blue rocks found all over the starting area. Cloth is crafted at a workbench from Wool, which is dropped by Lamballs.

Next, gather the harness materials
With the Pal Gear Workbench built, you can now access the recipe for the Foxparks Harness. Interacting with the bench will show you the required components. To craft one harness, you will need:
- Flame Organ x5
- Leather x3
- Paldium Fragment x5
Here’s how to source each material:
- Flame Organs: This is the key ingredient. You can get them by either defeating or capturing Fire-type Pals. Foxparks themselves are the most convenient source at this stage of the game. Each one you catch or defeat will drop one or two Flame Organs.
- Leather: A common material dropped by many early-game Pals. You can get it from Foxparks, Rushoar, or Melpaca, among others.
- Paldium Fragments: As before, mine these from the blue mineral nodes scattered across the landscape.
Finally, craft the harness
Once you have all the materials in your inventory, simply approach your Pal Gear Workbench, select the 'Foxparks Harness' from the list of available gear, and begin crafting. The process takes a few seconds. After it's complete, you don't need to equip it to a specific Foxparks. The harness is a permanent key item that unlocks the ability for any Foxparks in your party.

How does the flamethrower work?
Unlocking the flamethrower ability, 'Huggy Fire,' is as simple as having the crafted harness in your inventory and a Foxparks in your active party. To use it, follow these steps:
- Summon Your Foxparks: Throw its Pal Sphere to bring it out into the world.
- Activate the Partner Skill: Press and hold the designated Partner Skill button (F on keyboard, R-stick press on controller by default). Your character will pick up the Foxparks and hold it like a weapon.
- Unleash the Flames: As long as you hold the button, the Foxparks will spew a continuous stream of fire. This rapidly consumes its skill cooldown meter, so you can't use it indefinitely.
The flamethrower is incredibly effective against Grass and Ice-type Pals, dealing super-effective damage that can trivialize early-game encounters. It's also a fantastic tool for clearing out groups of weaker enemies, dealing with Syndicate Thugs, or even just lighting your campfire in style. The damage output is significant for when you first unlock it, providing a massive boost to your combat prowess long before you have access to actual guns.
A Worthy First Upgrade
Crafting the Foxparks Harness is more than just a simple gear upgrade; it's a perfect introduction to Palworld's Partner Skill system. It teaches you the core loop of capturing a Pal, identifying its unique potential, and crafting the gear needed to unlock it. The result is a powerful, versatile, and deeply satisfying tool that will serve you well as you prepare to challenge the Rayne Syndicate Tower and venture deeper into the islands.
